September 2015

At the September 22, 2015 board meeting, the Aberdeen Hotel Alliance presented the following events, groups, and organizations with approved funding for their event.

South Dakota Snow Queen

SD Snow QueenThe South Dakota Snow Queen Festival, the largest Winter Festival in South Dakota, will be celebrating its 70th year in 2016. It began in November 1946, when the Aberdeen Jaycees accepted a request from the St. Paul Winter Carnival to bring a “Queen of Snow’s” to our Winter Festival. The Festival at that time was very local with contestants coming from towns only a few miles away from the Hub City. The festival is no longer a local event and has grown to 38 locations across the state, and involves hundreds of contestants from all over the State of South Dakota.
The festival coronations are scheduled for January 10 & 17, 2016 in Aberdeen, SD.

SD Film Festival

SD Film Festival
SDFF began in 2007 to acknowledge films made by filmmakers from the Great Plains region (SD, MN, ND, IA, WY, MT, and NE) or films shot in the Great Plains region. However, regional considerations are only one of many factors considered in the final draw of films chosen to be “Official Selections.” The goal of the South Dakota Film Festival is to screen the “best” films submitted regardless of their geographic origin.

ALASD
ALASD
ALASD was established in September of 1994 and was titled South Dakota Assisted Living Facilities Association (SDALFA). The intent of forming an association was to: have a voice in state legislation; offer input to the SD Dept. of Health on regulations that effect the assisted living industry; provide public education about the assisted living industry, and connect with other assisted living facilities in the state. Annual conferences began in 1996 for education, networking with other facilities, and contact with the Dept. of Health.

This annual association conference is for individuals in the assisted living health care industry. The aim is to further educate, empower, and network with assisted living facility administrators, nurses, and caregivers from throughout SD.
