March 2015

At the March 17, 2015 board meeting, the Aberdeen Hotel Alliance presented the following events, groups, and organizations with approved funding for their event.

SD Senior Games

SD Senior Games
The SD Senior Olympic games are everything you've seen from the summer Olympics on television, plus some obscure events. The participants are not gymnasts however, they are ages 49 and over. These games are open to anyone, not just citizens of South Dakota. There will be swimming, track and field, cycling, marathons, bean bags toss, horseshoes, golf, shuffleboard, disc golf, 8 ball, jump rope, bowling, ping pong, tennis, badminton, volleyball, softball, basketball, racquetball, and archery. It is a 4 day event taking part in various areas around Aberdeen. Aberdeen has the pleasure of hosting the SD Senior Games September 7-11, 2015 along with the games in 2016.

Native Plains Bowling Tournament
The Native Plains Bowling Tournament is an annual bowling event that draws teams throughout the Upper Midwest. Between 500 to 600 bowlers and spectators attend this well established event. For many people it is a reunion as well as a bowling tournament.

The Village Bowl, open since 1962, has been serving the community with fun and recreational entertainment, and has now taken over the Native Plains Bowling Tournament. Along with events like these, they also do fund raisers for local organization and handle tournaments like State Special Olympics bowling.
